Set sail for adventure with Wispfire Games! Herald: The Interactive Period Drama – Complete Edition has finally launched. Herald: Complete Edition includes the previously-released Books 1 and 2 along with the all-new Books 3 and 4, which conclude the story. New features have been added as well, including a journal system which helps players navigate the story and keep track of the choices they’ve made and things they’ve seen.
Herald: Complete Edition is a narrative high seas adventure where player choice is vital. As Devan Rensburg, you will navigate an alternate history 19th century in which the Western world has united into a colonial superpower known as The Protectorate. Aboard the HLV Herald, a luxurious merchant ship bound for Devan’s home country, players will begin to unravel a conspiracy that spans the globe while also uncovering the secrets of the ship, her crew, and her passengers. And maybe, just maybe, Devan will make some friends along the way.
Vitals:
- Playtime: 8-10 hours for a single playthrough, ~14 to discover all endings and journal entries
- Price: $19.99, players who own Books I and II can purchase for a 40% discount
- Available on PC via Steam and GOG
Our goal with Herald: Complete Edition is to task players with navigating complex politics and social norms despite inhabiting the role of a man with very little power. Where other games put the player in a position of power, we want to challenge the player to contend with the reality of an unjust world and to deal with the restrictions that come with it. The narrative of the game will force players to make tough, realistic choices as they deal with a world rife with racism, intolerance and bitter class divisions, and ideally, force players to think about how they would react, resist, and advocate for justice in analogous situations. While this game has been in development for over a decade, its message is more important now than ever before. Despite Devan’s relative powerlessness, the actions Devan takes will all have a massive impact on his found family.
At its core, Herald: Complete Edition is a game about how everyone, no matter how powerless, can do something to change the world in a small way, and we hope that lesson stays with players long after they reach the end of our story.
